Danail Rachev Conductor
Amy Dickson Saxophone
Amy Dickson’s appearance is made
possible by the generous support of the Hattori Foundation for
Music and the Arts.
Making its second visit of the season, the
London Philharmonic Orchestra presents a concert with a
distinctively Russian flavour and which also makes a special
feature of the saxophone. Amy Dickson is a young Australian
saxophonist who has set out to redefine the saxophone as a
beautiful and refined instrument of classical music. In her
performances around the world and in her recordings, she shows
the great versatility of her playing. Amy will play two works
for saxophone and orchestra by Glazunov and Villa-Lobos.
Completing the Russian side of the concert will be
Prokofiev’s evergreen Classical Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s darkly
brooding fifth symphony, one of the cornerstones of the Russian
symphonic repertoire.
