Welcome to the Dorking Concertgoers’ 2012-13 season, providing high quality classical music in Mole Valley. This season two of the London orchestras perform for us: in October the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra visit with Czech conductor Libor Pešek and they include pieces by Dvorák and Smetana for which he is renowned; Tchaikovsky’s popular violin concerto provides a lively centrepiece. The Phiharmonia Orchestra visit in January with trumpeter Alison Balsom playing Hummel’s delightful concerto, symphonies by Beethoven and Bizet complete an exciting evening. The Maggini String Quartet visit three times with works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn together with music by several British composers which the Maggini have helped bring to a wider audience. The same can be said for pianist Mark Bebbington who will play some evocative pieces by John Ireland along with towering works by Schubert, Debussy and Liszt. The concert with the Olive Piano Trio presents three outstanding works by Brahms, Debussy and Beethoven for this engaging group of instruments. Finally, the lovely pairing of two harps plays works by French and Spanish composers.
